How does UV work?
Disinfection means destruction or inactivation of pathogeneous micro-organisms and it can be realized by UV treatment with a wavelength between 200 and 300 nm. UV light is fast, safe and effective and it functions as an economic and environmentally friendly system which has been used for years all over the world successfully. The germicidal effect of short wave UV light is based on its absorption by nucleic acid (DNA, RNA) within the nucleus of micro-organisms. UV light is absorbed most effectively in the wavelength of approx. 260 nm. The UV-C light evokes a photochemical reaction in the nucleus which changes the structure of the nucleic acid of the micro-organisms. In consequence, separation or reproduction of the cells is not possible anymore. Thus, water, air and surfaces become reliably germ-free through UV-C light. Depending on the radiation power, germs (viruses, bacteria, algae and fungi) can be reduced up to 99,99%.
